The CEO Headquarter in the UK
The CEO of a company runs the organisation, working alongside a board of directors and executive management. They set out financial aims for the company and work with teams to ensure they are producing returns on investment.
A study by accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young found that the UK’s top 10 locations for CEOs are all in London and the south east. This shows that the UK is still reliant on the capital city as the centre for company headquarters.
Locations
The London skyline and surrounding conurbation are the epicenter of corporate activity in the UK. The city has been home to the country’s biggest banks, largest retailers and most diverse tech companies since time immemorial. The city has a population of just over six million, and its most famous resident, BT, operates a whopping 300 UK offices. The metro area boasts a number of thriving business districts including the cosmopolitan Canary Wharf, trendy Victoria Station and tech-centric Shoreditch.
Requirements
The CEO is responsible for overseeing the overall direction of an organisation and implementing strategies that will ensure it meets its goals. They also direct the senior management team and appoint managers and department heads to carry out specific duties within the organisation.
A CEO must be a strong leader who has the ability to communicate clearly with others and accept experts’ opinions. They also need to have a vision of where the business is going and the motivation to get everyone in the company on board with it.
In a recent report, accountancy group UHY Hacker Young found that the top 10 locations for UK CEOs are all in London and the south-east of England. The report suggests that the UK has relied too heavily on its capital city as a business hub, with few companies locating their HQs outside of it. It called for further incentives to encourage businesses to move headquarters away from London.

The pay gap between bosses of the largest UK companies and their employees is eye-watering. Research by PwC shows that chief executives saw their pay rise by nearly a quarter on average in 2021, at a time when many employees are being offered below-inflation pay rises.
Work Environment
A recent study commissioned by accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young found Westminster to be the top spot on its list of UK CEO hubs. While a fair amount of the aforementioned HQs are situated in or near the capital, the study also revealed that there are some big name companies who have opted to locate their HQ elsewhere. Despite the competition, the city has still managed to cling on to a significant share of Britain’s top corporate talent, and is currently home to some of the nation’s most lucrative high flyers.
While the modern day commute might be a thing of the past, there are still plenty of opportunities to work smarter and slicker than ever before, thanks to a wide array of technological innovations – from mobile devices and social media to cloud computing. Keeping up with the curve in this highly competitive field requires an eye for detail and a healthy dose of lateral thinking.
